Rugeley Primary Schools Football Leagues

12 Rugeley primary schools are competing in this years primary football leagues on a Wednesday evening at Hagley Park.  The first weeks fixtures saw teams from Etching Hill, Chancel and Chase View compete in a series of matches to take an early advantage in the league which is sure to be as competitive as ever.  The first game saw Etching Hill beat Chancel by 3 goals to 1.  It seemed that Etching Hill would come out as comfortable winners in this game after scoring 3 early goals but Chancel were the team who finished the stronger and were unlucky not to add to their single goal.  The next game saw Etching Hill continue their winning streak with a 2-0 victory over a hard working Chase View side.  The final eagerly awaited game saw Chancel take on Chase View.  With both teams keen to gain their first points in the league it was no surprise to see both sides making a real game of it.  It was Chancel who came out on top in the end with a 2-0 victory.

It is a credit to the schools who took part for the way in which the children applied themselves during the games.  Each game was played in the right spirit, with the effort and enthusiasm of all the players being appreciated by the large crowd.  When the children were not taking part in games they received some top coaching from Hagley Park coaching students Ryan Elstone and Matthew Harvey.  Next weeks games will be between Redbrook Hayes, Western Springs, Hayes Meadow and John Bamford.

Girls Get Active
Congratulations to Naomi Scriven and Beth Archer who recently went to a Norwich Union Girls Active day to meet Dame Kelly Holmes.    The girls have come away with ideas about how they can get the girls dong more PE, sport and physical activity in their school.    They have both also been chosen to represent the school as Young Ambassadors across their cluster of schools.

This is on the back of the successful Girls Fitness programme that was run last year.    Girls were encouraged to come along to fitness classes at lunchtime and after school, those that attended e most were rewarded with free leisure passes to Rugeley Leisure Centre and free tracksuits provided by NEXT.

Rugeley Primary Schools Gifted and Talented Multi-Skill Academy

For the fourth year, 1 boy and 1 girl from each of the fourteen primary schools that make up the Fair Oak and Hagley Park clusters has been identified as being potentially talented in physical education, and will be participating in a programme of events that challenges their level of ability. The programme started with a 1-day visit to Shugborough OEC, where the pupils took part in a range of team building activities. This term the pupils will be doing trampolining, table tennis, badminton, martial arts and fitness testing.
