Text Box: Autumn Term
2009
Text Box: The students for this years academy have now been selected and on Friday 11th December they visited Shugborough Outdoor Education Centre for their team building and problem solving day. The children took part in a range of activities including BMX biking, orienteering and bush craft! Excellent team work was needed as students had to learn the art of fire lighting! As the instructors explained this is a difficult task in the summer, never mind in the middle of December! It was good to see many new friendships being made and the children working together to overcome problems and challenges. All students were keen to wear the new T Shirts they had been presented with but Text Box: unfortunately the temperatures barely managed to get above freezing!
In the Spring Term the students will be attending a weekly after school club here at Hagley Park. They will be taking part in a range of activities such as golf, badminton and fitness testing. The emphasise will placed on the skills required to play the sports such as agility, strength and coordination rather than the sports themselves.
In the Summer Term all the students will be taking part in another sporting experience. In the past we have been climbing, sailing and a couple of years ago we were lucky enough to go to the British Open Golf Championships at Royal

Text Box: The ever successful Key Stage 1 Indoor athletics festival took place at Rugeley Leisure Centre this term with 12 primary schools taking part. Each school was asked to bring 5 boys and 5 girls to compete in a number of throwing, jumping and running activities. The Text Box: children were really enthusiastic as they collected as many points as possible on each of the challenges. Young leaders were in charge of each activity ensuring scores were kept and the children were able to participate in a safe environment. When all Text Box: scores were collated it was Colwich Primary School who collected the most points and went home with the shield. Each child received a certificate. Thanks to all parents, teachers and young leaders for making the event so worthwhile.
Text Box: Birkdale. In the past the Academy has proved a massive success. Parents and teachers alike have told us how much the children have enjoyed the experiences offered to them and also how they have developed skills such as cooperation and leadership. We hope that this years group will get as much out of it as those in the past.
